Hi! My name is Melody Kwong and I’m a service coordinator for RecycleSmart. I’ve worked here for six months, and essentially what I do is ensure that we are giving the highest possible level of service to our customers and make sure that our customers are happy.
I first got into sustainability during my first year at McGill University. One of my older friends was in the Environment program, and I took electives related to it – it was super interesting and relevant to learn why we are where we are in this point in history. Ultimately I ended up enrolling in the program as well and getting my B.A.&Sc. In Environment!
I moved back to Vancouver to work for a company conducting responsible waste management at events and learned what a huge difference proper waste management can make.
I’m from Vancouver originally, but after university, I started out at a Montreal-based non-profit leading community clean-up events and urban agriculture initiatives. After that, I moved back to Vancouver to work for a company conducting responsible waste management at events and learned what a huge difference proper waste management can make!
My favourite thing about working for RecycleSmart is that we all share a common goal: We want to give our customers the best experience while guiding them to make responsible decisions for the environment. It’s overall a very positive working environment.
Outside of work, I love exploring nature, fermenting foods and doing yoga! Last year, I travelled to India for 30 days to experience the birth place of yoga. Some fun facts about me are that I’m bilingual – English and French and that I have perfect pitch and can play back any song that I hear on the piano!
